Sabbatical Day 0

I experienced one of the most amazing feelings today – walking out of work knowing I wouldn’t be back for eight weeks with my whole sabbatical in front of me. I feel like a kid again, except without
those pesky childhood limits. In that spirit, I’m inspired to bring back a tradition I started at my aunt’s suggestion a long time ago: the vacation journal. I used to buy a new spiral notebook whenever I
took a vacation to someplace I’d never been, and then dutifully write about the events and thoughts of day so I could remember all those subtle details that inevitably fade with time.

Now, I’m not a religious blogger like Dave, but I have scraped up enough motivation to take a shot at making a travel journal for this sabbatical. The ratty analog notebook is out, but the internet tubes
are in. I’ll be bringing my laptop with an extended life battery along with the camera to post pictures as I
go. When I can’t easily find to a high speed connection, I’ll still be able to post with my Blackberry. Failing a cell phone connection, I’ll still strive to write – every day or nearly so.

My hope is that I’ll keep things engaging for the reader as I traverse the continent. I’ve got a mix of new adventures and nostalgic traditions planned. If you find the writing disappoints, it doesn’t
matter. I’m on sabbatical . . . and I do what I want.
